Cape Cod Anne - Colonial – February 2010

Vacation & Loke wedding

Part One

Originally I had planned to travel to Palladium Punta Cana in January. Octavio was very gracious and excited about having me visit. Owing to personal circumstances and then the earthquake in Haiti, I cancelled that trip. Loke very kindly invited me to the wedding of her son and his beautiful bride in February in RM. I was honored to accept this invitation as this date worked well for me, I was in need of a few days rest, would have the opportunity to attend a beautiful wedding with dear friends, and I combined it with a visit to another friend in South Carolina on the way home.

Travel
I booked a hotel through Park Sleep n Fly. This enabled me to go up to Boston the night before and park at a hotel for the week. It was almost the same cost as just parking so why not start my vacation a day early! I left Murph off at the kennel and he was not a happy camper. He hid under the couch and barked at John, the owner, until we could catch him and lead him away. It always makes me feel a little guilty but I know he’s in good hands with John.

Murph loves the beach!

I had a direct flight from Boston to Cancun. Once we were all boarded it was announced we would be sitting on the runway in Boston for at least an hour due to heavy traffic in Cancun. There was nothing I could do about that so tried to make the best of it with a good book.

I arrived in Cancun an hour late and was greeted warmly by AGI who was waiting for me. Javier’s assistant Julios was my driver. He has a great personality and we managed to communicate for most of the ride. In no time we pulled into the beautiful arches of the Palladium, my home away from home. It really was happening!

Check in
Check in was busy. Angel, the concierge, welcomed me warmly “Welcome home Ms. Annie”. I always try to help Angel with his English and he with my Spanish. The resort seemed to be very busy. I waited and Eduardo, who was tied up with guests, said “Welcome Mz. A. I would like to talk to you when I am finished.” I checked in and was in a bit of a rush to get to the buffet which I knew closed at 4. I told Eduardo I was famished and would come back to talk to him. On the way to the buffet I saw sweet Marlene in Guest Services who gave me a big hug and offered to help in any way she could. I made it to the buffet a few minutes before 4 and saw Eduardo rushing towards me. “Mz. A did you eat?” “Gracias, yes Eduardo.” “I must talk to you.” I thought oh oh. Eduardo went on to say that the resort was nearly full and “my room” was not available. As this was a last minute trip and I was traveling alone I had not made a room request. They put me in a lovely Mayan Suite on the Colonial side. I told Eduardo, who was concerned that I be happy, that it was perfect and gave him a hug.

I went back to the lobby to find my luggage and Angel who was watching over it quickly retrieved it and drove me to my room. We compared notes on how good his English was and how poor my Spanish was! We had a good laugh. I could tell that Angel was very proud of his English.

Arriving in the room in 31 I was very happy and felt very welcome. The room and fridge were cool, gifts awaited me, i.e. champagne, flowers, fruit as well as a nice note from Guest Services. I loved my room.

After a quick outdoor shower it was time to meet Loke for a cocktail. I hadn’t seen her since April 2007 but we have kept in touch and I was excited to see her.
