Day one -
Up at 1:00 AM and out of the house by 2:00 AM and off to the New Orleans airport. I didn't feel real great last night and that added to the trip anticipation added up to a sleepless night. Joni was worried about me so I think she got less sleep than I did. We made it to the airport at about 4:40. I dropped the girls and went to park the car. When I got back we were all checked in. We gave them our bags and were off to the gate. We all slept most of the trip up here and before we knew it we were in NYC!!!
We were greeted at the airport by our driver from the 6-Star Limo service. He was from Louisiana and we could tell he was happy to be driving someone from home. We talked about everything from his elementary and high schools to car prices in New York compared to Louisiana. It was a great ride in and soon we were at the Manhattan Club. We checked in, but our room was not ready. Off to eat and then to Times Square to kill some time.
Once we got into our 1-bedroom/two bath condo we pretty much crashed for about an hour. Heather fell asleep and I could see Joni was exhausted. I walked a couple blocks to a very nice supermarket and picked up some supplies for the week. I also got a rotisserie chicken, some Fettuccine Carbonara, and "homemade" New England Clam Chowder. Everything was excellent and we had a wonderful quiet meal "at home".
Due to our exhaustion we are staying in this evening. We are looking forward to some special events this week, but the most important things are spending time with family and friends and getting some rest. Tomorrow we plan on meeting Karen from NYC for lunch. We have no idea when else we will do tomorrow but the main plan is to get ourselves adjusted to being in New York.
Day two - morning.
I woke up early this morning, rolled over and went back to sleep! I was up at about 8:00 and the girls got up just after 9:00. We had heard that the beds here were terrible. NOT TRUE! We slept like rocks!
This is really a nice little unit. The living area is about 16x14 with a sofa, a chair, and a small round table with four dining chairs. The "partial kitchen" has a microwave, mini refrigerator fridge, a bar sink, and a mini dishwasher. The decor is old, and the carpets could be cleaned, but let's be honest - we are in NYC and have a living room attached to what would be a pretty typical hotel room. In my book we are lucky.
We have two baths, one off the bedroom that is VERY nicely decorated. Marble floors and pretty gold towel bars. The other bath is slightly smaller, nicely decorated, with a very nice large shower. The bedroom is about 12 x 14 and is also need of some updating, but looks like what you would have in a home. There is a 32" flat screen in both sides of the condo.
This is a sad day here in NYC. They just announced that the Harlem School for the Arts will be closed due to lack of funding. That school provided an alternative school for thousands of students over the years. Being a person who taught in the arts for years that really made me sad.
More later, and I promise that I'll post some pictures!

I cant begin to tell you how much I enjoyed that lunch. The company, of course, but the food was pretty darn good. I WISH I had thought to bring a camera.
The waiter was very good to us (he's my regular Saturday waiter). I go to this restaurant (Fresh Basil) maybe once a month - that's all the budget will allow.
