Mark, what is PP?  Does the Delmar/Beach have a/c in their restaurants.  It can get mighty hot in the summer.

The Grand Sunset Princess is a very nice property.  However it is just a bit over ONE HALF MILE from the lobby to the beach.  It is a HUGE resort.

Steph I think it is Playa Paraiso.

Yes, its quite a walk (think of it as great exercise for all the food and booze we're taking in).  I'm just trying to consider a resort that might be a little newer (since we'll obviously have Barcelo Palace, Lindo, Maya, etc in the back of our minds doing comparisons) but still in a manageable price range.

I would also include the Blue Bay Grand Esmerelda also.

Okay, here's an out of body experience.....what about a 7 night sailing from Galveston at the end of June....if we save on the airfare, we might have money left over for the bar tab????  Coz, Cayman, Jamaica?

We would have to have free airfare to cover the bar tab of this group Laughing

My wife and I would be more likely to try a cruise than playacar. Playacar is nice but is too crowded for us. No snorkeling either. We don't know if we will be able to go or not anyway. We had a pretty bad year with lots things happening after last years trip. Just different problems coming up monetarily and health wise for me.  We just had to buy a new truck and the wife is thinking about going back to school. A cruise might be cheapest for us. We've never done it and never really wanted to cruise  but would definitly consider it with the same group we went with last year. We really enjoyed everybody. It would all depend on price and timing for us. I'm sure we can smuggle some Havana club on at the port.  Razz

My 2¢..I agree with Mike that Blue Bay is an affordable optio.  I think we will be heading back there this March. We liked everything about it except the ocean was sub par. Ala cartes everynight if you like, top shelf liquor, Ocean front Rooms, Almost New, Good staff.

I tried doing a "dummy booking" on line for Blue Bay.  June 25-July 2 approx.  It says hotel not available.  But I tried another set of dates...another "not available", so I'm thinking they havent released rooms for booking that far out?

There seems to be pretty much 24 hr food in some capacity (snacks at sports bar or Mex. resto).

Besides a typo on at least one page (yes, I look for typos)....the hotel looks very nice, at least from the pictures.  I only saw TWO Bars....sports bar...and a bar between pool and sea (didnt say if swim-up).  For this group, 2 bars just wont do!

****Just changed this post to show 7 night comparisons on both rather than my earlier 5 night air/land rates vs 7 night cruise.  See below!!

based on those prices.....only Sandos Playacar would work for me...and even with half-free airfare (I have a Jet Blue Credit), this whole trip may be out for me...unfortunately.
