Has anyone booked a 6 Apple Square Deal?
« on: October 18, 2009, 07:20:47 PM »

My husband and I have booked a 6 Apple Square Deal for November.  Has anyone here done this?

Thanks,

I have been tempted to do this but I am have this feeling they would put me at Dreams Puerto Aventuras. An A&M (Apple) resort that used to be Sunscape and had crappyr eviews.  Karen in NY and Dan & Steph have stayed there and i think they didnt think it was a 6 apple either. Have done a 5 apple twice and have had a great time .  You just have to go with an open mind

I was at Dreams PA when it was a Sunscape property.  Definitely not nearly (at that time) the rating.  Even with the Dreams changes, the price is incredibly high.  The physical property is very small compared to others.    The best thing about this property is the Marina (not part of resort).

The people there were incredibly nice....internet then was VERY limited.

Best to read reports on TA...but I did just check and the most recent post stayed there on a 5 Apple deal, so unless they property is suddenly a 6 apple deal, IMHO you wont be there (but dont get mad at me if you end up there).

You should be able to at least find out what hotels are on "the list".  and I dont know if "they" differentiate between red and golden apple ratings.

Thank you all for the replies  Very Happy

I've read quite a few TA reports and most say that in their opinion Dreams Puerto Adventuras is not a 6 apple.......We're hoping for an adults only....but realize that they could place us at ANY 6 apples including any of the Dreams.  We've been to Puerto Adventuras twice to catch a catamaran and saw Sunscape in the distance.

Thought about upgrading to a Secrets Square Deal but Apple doesn't offer it on Nov 4, but does Nov 5...oh well  Confused

To tell you the truth, we'll be happy anywhere.....It is what you make it....and it's kind of exciting not knowing the location Anxious

Will be sure to let you know where we end up!

Last January we booked a Dreams 5 apple and was sent to Dreams PA.  The biggest problem was the front desk which none of the employees had taken customer service 101.  This was noted on all trip reports we read so we were not surprised.  It was such a good deal we overlooked the minor annoyances.  It was fun not knowing where you were going until you arrive at the Cancun airport.

All of the Dreams resorts in the Riviera Maya are now considered 6 Apple....

Again, that is Apple's own rating system and as long as a resort meets THEIR criteria for a particular category, that's how it ranks....according to Apple.  There's always much discussion about how one resort is better than another resort within the same rank.  Remember that its just that given vendor's own criteria and not necessarily that they are comparing the resorts against each other, but classifying them as to the amenities offered.  Each vendor (GOGO, Funjet, AAVacations, Apple, etc.) has their own rankings and own preferred resorts.  But when stacked up against each other, the resorts typically are graded the same from vendor to vendor.

The first time to Catalonia Tulum. Since then it had been down graded to a four Apple. Dont  Great beach so so food &,service and a bit dated.
great except for the beach
This past March we went to Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda. It was great but the beach/Ocean had much to be desired

we did an Iberostar 5 apple square deal once. We figured that was a safe bet. We  found out about a week before we went that we were booked at the Iberostar Del Mar. When we got to the resort to check in, we asked for an upgrade to the Lindo and slipped her a $20.00. We got it!  Very Happy

My friend is there now on an Apple 5+ deal and she ended up at Dreams Tulum.  I told her to do the Secrets deal for $200 more/person but she did not do it.   She arrived from Philly at about 9:50 am and thought she would be at the pool by noonish.  She texted me at 3:00 EST and was still in the van to Dreams Tulum.  Not sure when she finally arrived, but she leaves Sunday already.  I can't even imagine how early they will have to be picked up.  If you have the choice of the Secrets Square Deal, I would recommend that as long as you do not have children with you.

Texts from Robino's friends....they seem to be having a great time upon arriving at the resort....had already had a margarita and was off to schedule massages!  Dreams Tulum is a cool little resort, we enjoyed our stay there (not Secrets, but a cool place!).... Cool

My friends are having a great time at Dreams Tulum -- she said, "It is a lovely resort.  Good restaurants, good beach, great pools.  terrific spa, probably the best massage I ever had."
