Day 3 : Monday, Oct 5th Up early again and hit the breakfast buffet. Took a walk on the

Photos of the main pool....

The hotel did not provide pool rafts/floaties so bring one along. I'm glad I did because it was tooooo hot to lay in the sun on the lounge chairs. I gave my raft to some folks from England and told them to pass it along to someone else when they left.
I brought 2 rafts...one for the Sandos, one for the Valentin.
Advertizing the new Cocobongo in Playa del Carmen
It was hot hot hot today !!! and every day I was in Mexico !!!
Members Only section....never saw anyone here. The Royal Elite section with beach beds

I saw a LOT of sunburned people. I spent most of the day at the pool by my room. About 3 pm, I decided to call Jutta. Her and Mary were arriving tomorrow and I was excited that they would be joining me. Jutta had told me that Mary was coming over to her place to spend the night before the trip. They were going out to dinner, then watching the Packers game, then to bed early. Not thinking that Mary would be at Jutta's yet, I call. The phone rings..... Jutta : Hello Tammy : Hey Jutta, it's Tammy *silence on the other end of the phone* Tammy : Can you talk ? Jutta : Um...no Tammy : Oh my God, is Mary there ? Jutta : Yeah Tammy : S**T I didn't think she was coming over until later !! Jutta : Is everything ok ? Tammy : Yeah, I was just calling to say I'm ready for you girls to get here !! Ok, better hang up. See you tomorrow !! It was a very short phone call. I hung up and could have kicked myself for calling. We'd kept the secret for 3 weeks and I thought I'd just blown it. But lucky for us, Mary never caught on. She did question Jutta as to why she hung up so quickly but Jutta talked her way out of it.
Ok, here's some more pics of the hotel....
Sports Bar....La Bambola
Outdoor seating area...sports bar on the left....buffet on the right
 Avenue Bar and jewelry shop
 Festival Grand Buffet...the main buffet
 Another view of the Buffet
Fountain just past the buffet on the way to the main pool & beach
 Meeting Point (the big palapa)
Another view of the Meeting Point
Inside the Meeting Point...WiFi available here, plus tour booking and restaurant reservations

 A fountain along the way
One of the Hacienda buildings....each building comes with its own small rectangular pool and outdoor jacuzzi
Scenery as you walk thru the resort
 Shopping at the Sandos Playacar
 The Disco
Setting up for an outdoor evening show....Disney
 Italian Buffet restaurant
The inside courtyard area of my building...fountains and lots of foliage.
After a day of suntanning, I hit the jacuzzi when I got to the room. Decided to watch the Packers - Vikings game in the room instead of going into PDC. Ordered room service...chicken tacos and guac & chips. When the food arrived, they also gave me this as a little treat for being in a junior suite....or maybe they just knew I'd like them.
 Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Went to bed anticipating the arrival of my friends tomorrow.
Tomorrow : Valentin Imperial Maya

Enjoying your report/photos. Cant wait for the next chapter. I never thought of going to that hotel, but after seeing the pictures, I could be convinced to change my mind (if I can save the money - currently out of work).
Keep up the great pictures/writing.

great pictures and reports. Where did they build the new part of the resort? Was it down the beach, south from the original part or back closer to the road away from the beach?

Hi Tammy,
Beautiful pictures! Is this near / related to the RIU Playacar? The beach looks similar as does some of the buildings in your shots from the beach but there is definitely new items as well. Did they add on? Where is it located exactly?

A lot of your pics look very familiar to me. In 2005 we stayed at the Gala Playacar, is this the same resort?
If so, they have done a remarkable job of remodeling! Or is this a brand new section?
The beach was just as beautiful, but our room ... not so much

I'm betting I probably was in the new section.
The "Meeting Point" looked to me like it should be or could have been a main lobby so maybe it used to be before they added on. Plus the lobby I checked in at and the surrounding buildings with rooms were the farthest from the beach that the resort offers, so they likely kept building away from the beach and back. But still it was only a 5 minute walk at the most to get to the breakfast buffet, main pool, and beach.
And now that I'm thinking about it, when I walked back to the hotel from PDC that one night, I came upon what I thought was the entrance to the hotel and there is a hotel sign there too, but then I had to walk farther to reach the main entrance, which is the lobby I checked in at and near my room. The first entrance I came upon could have been the original entrance to the hotel before they added on.
