Tentative, based on finding an airfare I can afford. Bare-bones Xmas, no presents, no dining out, gotta find FREE things to do.
I normally stay two weeks....giving my sister a break...she needs her own time too.
Update(s): Having a problem finding an airfare I can afford. But I need to fly Jet Blue. I have a new fear of flying which stems back to the flight from hell DFW-LGA iN April 08, bordering on panic, and Jet Blue are the only ones I feel comfortable with in this situation. I dread spending 5+ hours on the plane, but a train takes 5 days.....
But I have a new plan.....get two drinks and a tylenol PM and keep the DirectTV on as loud as I can stand it.

The airfare dropped a few dollars to $569 (which is more than I paid last year) but the EML (even more legroom seats) went from $30 each way to $40. So my fare is $649, but if the fare drops I get JB credit.

Karen, I hope you get to go. Even if you don't have money to spend just going to Phoenix and enjoying the warm weather and sunshine can do wonders for you. If I know you, you'll find some airfare. Keep looking. Sally

the airfare I booked has remained unchanged . . . until this morning. Fare dropped $160 so I called Jet Blue and got a credit to my account -- to be used within one year.

Karen:
My ex wife got to be the same way, just absolutely terrified of flying. Dramamine, even the non drowsey, would knock her out for at least teh next day of travel and maybe two. We saw this motion sickness bracelet at Sharper Image years ago. I just checked their website and its not sold there any more, but I googled and found it for sale here. You might even search further and find it for less.
long story short, it made an amazing difference for her. No more nausea adn the mild electrical impulse did enough to really help get rid of a lot of her fear. Not all, mind you, but at least it wasnt causing her the physical mess that it had gotten to for her.
You might consider it. We bought it, as Sharper Image had a money back guarantee period, and I imagine some of the distributors do the same.

Thanks Mark. I dont get motion sick...I just get REALLY STRESSED......Practically speaking, of courseI know that if it werent safe the pilot would not be flying. But after the trip back from DFW on April 08....and this last trip coming back from Mexico it was really bad. I'm thinking a couple of Tylenol PM....but I'd tell the cabin attendant when I get on the plane. That's one of the reasons I like Jet Blue and sitting in the front...nearer to the cabin attendants. (but the train takes about 4 days and at least two changes. I actually did look into that. Depending on how the flight is GOING...I might still take a train back. If were not going to see my sister, I dont think I'd be flying.....this sure is gonna limit any future trips (but I suppose flying is safer than taking the bus to Atlantic City!!!).
And this from a person who's made as many as six trips in one year.....3 to Mexico, 2 to Texas, one to Rochester, and one to Arizona (see, I cant even count...that's seven!)
If I can see my primary care doctor (actually a Nurse practitioner) for a Swine Flu shot, I will see if she can give me something just for the two flights.....and see if that makes a difference........Otherwise I seriously will have to consider a "fear of flying" class.

Karen,
My son-in-law has the same problem when he flies. His fear of flying is beyond normal. His doctor gives him some ativan just to fly. In fact he only writes a prescription for a couple when he is going on a trip. It really helps him and he doesn't get addictied to them because he only uses them when he flies which isn't that often. Maybe once a year. He takes it about 20 mins. before he gets on the plane.

Sally, I know about Ativan. Short story: MRI - panicked (head scan) and it was an OPEN MRI. So I got 2 ativan tablets. Took one about 1 hr before............they told me to take a second one just before scan.....Well, talk about acting silly. I'll try for something a little less strong. Thanks.

Still totally stressing about getting on the plane Friday. I think I'm gonna have to rely on Tylenol PM (take 2) and hope it puts me to sleep. I have a security pillow and a stuffed animal.

It's a turtle. It was either the turtle or the teddy bear.
