Good thoughts (for my finances) please!
« on: July 16, 2009, 10:59:05 AM »

You know the story - out of work almost 9 months, trying to live on unemployment which could get cut off at any time.  Likely will not be able to find work.

Now today i found out I will have a HUGE dental/periodontal bill.  Perio work alone could be upward of $9000 and that doesnt include my REGULAR dentist.  (could actually be higher due to work on bone loss)

I'm seriously going to have to consider cancelling my trip to Mexico in September.  But I have a non-ref air tickets so I dont know what to do about that.

Please send good thoughts to the lottery gods!!!

Karen, I wish you would/could move somewhere else. A few months ago I suggested here, but the recession is finally starting to show up here and layoffs are starting to happen to people who have been with companies for years. Even the colleges here are talking layoffs and they usually just talk about a salary cut for a year or two when things get tough.

I couldnt move without having a job...and the only place I really SHOULD go is Arizona to be with my sister.  THe unemployment rate there is just as bad...and in YUMA AZ its about 19%.

Now, "Hi, welcome to Wal-Mart..." is looking pretty good!

I REALLY dont want to cancel Mexico...and I'm going to TRY and do everything WITHOUT cancelling.  I mean I could take the money from my savings for the dentist....but that's my retirement money.  I am talking to my regular DDS to see if she can do the 'deep cleaning' (she said she'd talk to my periodontist.) She only charges about 190-200 per quadrant and the perio doc is $450 per quadrant.  he's a GREAT doctor.

I've written to American Airlines to see what can be done with my partial or ALL non-ref ticket.  I have til I have to make final trip pmt to make a decision.

Meanwhile I may put off the perio work for a week just to give myself time to think.  I have to ask the perio doc if he can cut me a deal if the DDS cant to the deep cleaning....

Karen you are certainly deserving of a turn-around that's for sure.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you, and talking to the big guy for you as well! I'm hoping your dry period comes to a halt and brings happy news for you!

I just saw today that a big factory in my town(quad graphics) is looking for new employees. I'm hoping this is the start of the economy starting to improve. Quad graphics makes all sorts of mgazines, like Taste of home, Playboy, and lots others, and also makes flyers and mini brochures for chain stores. If they are starting to hire again, I'm assuming that means that people are starting to buy magazines again. That's a good sign! It's a start!

We're all pulling for you Karen!!

Hey, the trolls worked.......My DDS spoke to the Perio doc...SHE (DDS) is doing the scaling/deep cleaning so it will be $190/quadrant instead of $450 and she said she'd try to give me a small discount.....

So I dont have to deal with the SURGERY/tooth extraction til the Fall.....I'm take a week or to to figure out the financing (plan is to ask perio to accept $1500/month til paid)........so maybe the trip is back on again......

Thanks for all the good thoughts.....My Bp has been through the roof for a couple of weeks.  hopefully will get back to normal.....

I want a troll!  Just have to find somewhere to buy:  Do they have "build a troll"?

So the latest is:

I saw an orthopedic Dr last week.  What they DIDNT tell me at the time is that the Dr. does NOT take the Medicare insurance I have (they knew very well that I didnt have United HC or regular Medicare), so now I will be getting a bill from the Dr. (who knows how much THAT will be).

That dr had given me a referral for phys. therapy.  The PT office (who are actually the ones that told me about this) just called and I have to cancel the PT appts since the dr who referred me is not in my plan. (I blame the person who originally made the appointment for me - I was very clear about my insurance).

So...I now have to call the ortho guy's office tomorrow and straighten this out....and then try and get my primary care person to fax an RX to the PT office.   Of course she (my NP) will likely not take MY word and will have to call the ortho doc's office.  etc....etc....etc.

And, this will take me the day to straighten out which means I will have to report for my unemployment that I was NOT ready, willing and able to work on Tuesday and will lose about $100 of my unemployment money for the week.

I dont even WANT to take my BP right now. Its a good thing I have nothing alcoholic in the house.  This is enough to drive me to drink! (well, not really) but you get the idea.

So my particular problem is going to go untreated for at least another week or so, unless I can get this straightened out tomorrow....Oh yes, then I start my dental work the following week!

Did you give your insurance information to the doctor's office. I would think that if you did they will have to eat the bill. When you signed in they should have told you that they cannot provide services to you under your plan. I think that this should be found in your state's Patient Bill of Rights

Bandman, they did "eat" the bill, except for the co-pay I would normally have paid.  They admitted that they were wrong.  Score one for MY side.

But my dental news is getting worse.  It looks like I could have at least two teeth lost on the lower right which means a bridge.  Its so bad...that my regular DDS wouldnt even do the work on my new crown till I get the perio work done.  I think I am going with the original (AND VERY EXPENSIVE) periodontist if he will cut me a slight  break on the cost.  My DDS trusts him, and I know he's good.  I just cant afford (literally or figuratively) to fuss around with this, otherwise I could lose more teeth.
