HOW BIG IS IKE???
Look at the map and find the S in Lake Charles. That is about where my house is located, and we are having 16 - 35 MPH winds right now. Our local weather forecast is calling for 40MPH winds with gusts up to 60MPH when Ike hits the coast in Galveston (4PM - 10 PM) over 240 miles away.
In addition to that news, the following is in effect for us right now and the storm in about 220 miles south of us as of 10:20 CST.
10:11 AM CDT Fri-Sep-12 The Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WARNING Louisiana parishes ACADIA, CALCASIEU, JEFFERSON DAVIS, LAFAYETTE, ST MARY, VERMILION HURRICANE WARNING Louisiana parishes CAMERON, IBERIA, ST MARY, VERMILION TORNADO WATCH Louisiana parishes ACADIA, ASSUMPTION, AVOYELLES, EVANGELINE, IBERIA, IBERVILLE, LAFAYETTE, POINTE COUPEE, ST LANDRY, ST MARTIN, ST MARY, VERMILION FLASH FLOOD WATCH Louisiana parishes ACADIA, ALLEN, AVOYELLES, BEAUREGARD, CALCASIEU, CAMERON, EVANGELINE, IBERIA, JEFFERSON DAVIS, LAFAYETTE, ST LANDRY, ST MARTIN, ST MARY, VERMILION
I consider us to be in NO DANGER yet we still show up on the weather maps. We are out of school today so we can take in people who need to get out of Texas. I'm headed over to school today to see about more repairs from Gustav. Any one need some firewood -- that was the biggest tree in the world that hit our gym!
I sure hope that all the people in Galveston get out. They are facing a certain death if they choose to stay. My prayers are with all the people on the Texas coast.

Stay safe in Lafayette. Most of my heart is there, evacuating from Calcasieu Parish, my daughter, son-in-law, and 4 grandkids, in addition to one of my sisters. They are staying with my cousin. They had hotel reservations in Rustin, but didn't want to go that far from home.
I've been watching the live cams from Galveston on CNN.com. It looks so bad there already, and the storm is still hours away. Looks like we won't have a beach house to worry about anymore. It's located 12 miles east of Galveston, right off the beach.

Thanks, Dave. I had a hard time getting in touch with my daughter a little earlier, but we finally talked, and she said the same thing, that everything is fine there. Of course, my cousin's house is not kid proof, so little Marlee is running her momma ragged!
Tami, I'm not worried about the beach house. If it goes, it goes. We were thinking of taking the whole thing down, and rebuilding on our front lot, so the storm may do us a favor. But if the storm takes our's down, it will take a bunch more down, too, and I hate for that to happen to our neighbors.
It's hard to believe that people wouldn't evacuate from Galveston. Now they are saying that it is too late, and a lot of people did stay. Certain death...scarey.

We just heard there are 15 people stranded on a church rooftop in Crystal Beach, where our beach house is located, and 3 people are on the roof of a building across the road. God be with them, as there will be no rescue efforts made from this point on until the storm passes.

Praying for everyone in his path.
I was 15 and in Harris County when Alicia hit. Our subdivision looked like a bomb hit it. It was horrible. No water, power for over 3 weeks.
