breezy here in Dallas, but the rain is staying east it looks like. supposed to curve up through Eastern Ok and AR.
Breezy meaning, it feels a little like fall today. ( very little)

Hi guys,
This has been a very interesting few days. Our house went without damage, as did most of the street we live on. We were without power for a day and half, and are totally without any kind of communication via Cox Communication (TV, Phone or cable internet). I do have Email via my blackberry. I have to say that Cox is about worthless. They have even stopped taking called on their customer service numbers that they told us to call if service went out. I spoke with a guy who works there and they said they are just doing MINOR repairs and are assessing damage to bring in contractors to fix. They do not have the ability to say when the contractors will be hired, so we are limited to phone service via our cellular phones. This may cause many people to change from Cox to other carriers for phone, cable and TV.
As you drive around town you see different things. The school where I work has large amounts of metal walkways, all of which were untouched, There was a book set upon a window ledge that is totally dry and unopened. On the other hand, there is a HUGE tree sitting on our gymnasium! It took one heck of a wind to blow that tree down (cracked it in half) yet it was not at the correct angle to hit to book, which probably weighs a pound.
Many stores have covers and partial roof damage. Most of Lafayette has power, but the outer areas are about 40-50% out. The area where we live is still 90% without power, and they do not have any idea when it may be back on.
We are currently eating at World of Wings, and life here is totally normal. We are headed out to my sister's house. In her city they never lost power in about 90% of the area, and the rest had power within hours.
Traffic is pretty much normal around town with the exception that about half the traffic lights are out. Most people observe the 4-way stop rule, but some just run the lights as if they are green.
Grocery and gas in our city is very well controlled, but in New Orleans they are having to station police in stores because people are fighting over items. The strange thing is that New Orleans barely got hit by this storm compared to the other southern parts of the state. Lafayette (where we live) is in good shape, but New Orleans is even better off than we are. Some people just don't know how to act down there and that gives the entire city a bad reputation.
So enough for now -- have a great day, and I'll report again when we get Internet at some other location.

Thanks for posting, Bandman. I just can't imagine what it must be like there. My mind goes to people with chronic illnesses like insulin dependent diabetes (for obvious reasons) - insulin must be kept cold. I remember so vividly with Katrina a family on tv desperate to find insulin for their loved one in the Superdome. Anyway, I hope electricity gets restored quickly! We all should really have emergency plans in place for any type of disaster where we live.
Glad you and your family are safe, Dave.

So glad you and all your family are ok, and that your house didn't get any damage. I haven't talked to my brother-in-law, but am hoping they didn't get any damage. Keep us posted. Hope you got to enjoy your pineapple.
