At worst flights in the Gulf region will probably just be rerouted and add a few minutes flight time.

Tami, we don't actually go till Tuesday. I am more concerned about our friend Tammy. She arrived in Cancun today. She's staying three days in Cancun and then Tuesday she joins us at Iberostar Paraiso Beach. I'm keeping an eye on the other storms coming in also.

No worries here, thank goodness.

Yesterday they started putting away all the hobie cats and seadoos...that got us a little worried as we saw them do that before Emily in 2005.

This morning we woke up to sun and cloud at 6:30.  During the next few hours, there were a few hard showers and again clouds swirling around with sunshine mixed in.  It was about 31C with 77% humidity.  There wasn't a lot of wind, but the storm surge was up and there were a lot of big 'rollers'.

During the rest of the day we had more wind, a few more showers, but also lots of sunshine.  Lots of big black clouds moving around us, but it was actually a great day.  The waves got huge this afternoon.  The beach in front of Del Mar had water coming up to the boardwalk.  They moved all the loungers away, and they also moved the seadoos and hobie cats further away behind the dive shack.  Late this afternoon, the skies cleared enough for there to be a wedding on the beach.  The sea was stormy but the sun was shining.

So, we are lucky and really enjoyed our last day, just lounging on our balcony and taking dips in the 'cool' tub!

Now we're off to enjoy a dinner and then it's back to packing.

There...that's my trip report!

Adios,
Doreese y Bince Cool

Doris thank you for your report from the Iberostar Paraiso Beach. That sounds very encouraging for those of us who will be staying there early next week.

Still looking like it is coming strainght at us. Most areas around us have a mandatory evacuation order, but our area stays in place. The storm will some in at a cat. 4 or low 5, but by the time it gets to us is is expected to be down to a two.

I really think that many of the areas around us will be torn apart, and we may even be without power for a couple weeks, but life will go on for us.

If things get really bad we'll move into my office

And the fun begins!!!

Gustav Status
Time: 5 am ET
Wind: 115 mph
Strength: Category 3
Direction: NW at 15 mph

In the middle of the state there are two roads (white lines) that merge. In this picture it is just to the left lf the red storm box. We live 7 miles to the west of the intersection of those two roads (I-49 and I-10).

8:45 CST Update
It looks like the storm is getting wider -- THAT IS A GOOD THING!!!

When it gets wider it does not spin as fast. THat will slow it down.

In Lafayette they are already reporting the storm as a Cat 2.

We have 20-38 MPH winds and the storm is not really going to be in our area for a few more hours, but I hope it continues to widen out. That will also help the people in Texas in the next few days as the storm comes apart.
